We are seeking an experienced Survey Technician to support our land surveying operations through drafting, data processing, technical analysis, and survey project preparation.
Position Overview
The Survey Technician works under the supervision of a Registered Professional Land Surveyor (RPLS) or Project Manager and supports a wide range of surveying projects.
This position is responsible for preparing survey calculations, CAD drawings, plats, supporting documentation, and survey data for review while helping manage multiple projects through completion.
Projects may include:
- Boundary surveys
- ALTA/NSPS surveys
- Easements
- Right-of-way surveys
- Topographic surveys
- Subdivision plats
Key Responsibilities
- Perform survey calculations and prepare CAD drawings and supporting documents for a variety of projects, including:
- Boundary surveys
- ALTA/NSPS surveys
- Easements
- Right-of-way surveys
- Topographic surveys
- Review and interpret technical documents including:
- Deeds
- Plats
- Title reports
- Construction plans
- Utility plans
- Prepare survey data, calculations, drawings, and supporting information for review by an RPLS.
- Prepare subdivision plats in accordance with applicable government agency ordinances and regulations.
- Assist with subdivision plat processing and preparation through final recordation.
- Maintain familiarity with public-sector surveying and mapping requirements, including those established by:
- Harris County
- Harris County Toll Road Authority (HCTRA)
- Harris County Flood Control District (HCFCD)
- City of Houston
- Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT)
- Other counties and municipalities
- Draft and process survey data using:
- AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Trimble Business Center (TBC)
- Related surveying and mapping software applications
- Manage and prioritize multiple projects while meeting schedule, deadline, and budget requirements.
- Coordinate with survey field crews, Project Managers, engineers, and other project personnel as needed.
- Work under the supervision and direction of an RPLS or Project Manager.
- Additional training on applicable software and company processes will be provided as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years of land surveying office experience
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Proficiency with Trimble Business Center (TBC) is a plus
- Strong understanding of surveying principles, drafting standards, calculations, and technical documentation
- Ability to review and interpret deeds, plats, title reports, construction plans, and utility plans
- Familiarity with public-sector surveying and mapping requirements
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with project teams
